I first played on a full size snooker table when I was 12 and went on to score a hundred in practice at 14 with a 100 break in a match at 16 years of age. My first 147 was at 17 in practice on my own with my highest break in competition currently standing at 145.
From the ages of 17 to 20 I learnt a lot about the game, and particularly the coaching side from top coach Derek Hill - so a big thank you to him for helping me on my way.
During 1998, and after quite a lot of successful casual coaching at the Boston Snooker Centre, I decided to look further into obtaining a WPBSA Coaching Qualification.
I had to undergo both written and practical exams, with the practical exam being held at Stoke On Trent in front of 3 judges, one of whom was 6 times world champion Ray Reardon MBE - the former chairman of the WPBSA coaching committee at that time.
I followed that up in February 1999 by attending a WSA coaching scheme training day at Stoke on Trent and subsequently passed all criteria needed to obtain my qualification as an OFFICIAL WPBSA QUALIFIED SNOOKER COACH.
In 2000 the late Steve Prest ( former top coach ) and I were awarded the coaching position to coach the public and schools at the UK Snooker Championships in Bournemouth, and appeared on TV coaching some youngsters. The 2001 season also saw me become the official coach for the World Ladies Snooker Tour.
Then in 2007, myself and some other coaches travelled to the Snooker Academy in Sheffield, to a seminar with Del Hill, where I then obtained my GRADE 'A' STATUS as a snooker coach.
In 2016 i attended a Safeguarding and protecting children course run by Sports Coach UK. Then during 2018 I underwent a 1st 4 Sport practical snooker coaching exam in front of an examiner after completing coursework and assesments, thus obtaining a 1st 4 Sport certificate in snooker coaching.
January 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 saw me as one of the lead 'Cue Zone' coaches appearing at the prestigious 'MASTERS' invitation only snooker event, I also undertook the Lead Coaching role during the first week at the 2015 and 2016 World Championships in Sheffield - Snookers Premier event. The Cue Zone sometimes involved coaching school children the basics, although it was mainly testing and helping the general public with some fun practise routines.
In March 2022 I attended a two day Sightright course with Steve Feeney and acquired my Sightright, level one accreditation certificate.
Then in early 2024 I obtained the WPBSA Level 3 Advanced Coaching Qualification…..

Between 2000 and 2020 countless titles have been won by the pupils I coach, and the level of winners has increased since I have been running "Kids Clubs" to improve the snooker abilities of the under 18s.
In 2018. two of my kids club / snooker coaching pupils gained world successes……Luke Gilbert won the World Junior 8 ball Pool Championship, and Dom Cooney reached the final of the Mens World 8 ball Pool Championship. Additionally during this year, a former junior coaching pupil Harvey Chandler achieved his dream of becoming a snooker professional by winning the European Amateur Snooker Championships.
In 2019, Luke claimed the Under 23 World 8 ball Pool title to go with the previous years success, Also in 2019 i was very proud to have played a part in coaching/ helping Warwick University first team capture the prestigious annual BUCS University Snooker Championships, whilst helping the second and third teams to put in good performances.
Although I still play league matches and the odd amateur event, my time is currently spent coaching and travelling to snooker clubs, players houses and other venues throughout the Surrey, Essex and Cambridgeshire regions. I am now based in Surrey and am the resident coach at these three local clubs…..FRAMES SPORTS BAR in Coulsdon, SURREY SNOOKER ACADEMY in Cobham and POCKETS in Southend, although i am happy to travel to the Counties further afield if have enough bookings.

So over the years I feel I have earned my status as a coach, having studied the game of snooker in great depth and spent time learning and taking on board all the technical, mental and practice issues players have to contend with. In addition my coaching technique has produced a high degree of success, as can be seen by the testimonials from some of my current and past individual pupils.
